Reaching Adventure Bay from Bristol

If you’re from Bristol there’s a chance you’ve already met some folks from our corner of Cornwall, we’re home to a lot of creatives who find their way up to the biggest city in the south west but more often than not end up coming back home to the Rame Peninsula.

While much of Cornwall remains quite inaccessible without a car, you’ll find it’s easy to reach us using public transit directly from Bristol. Hop on a train to Plymouth from Bristol Temple Meads station with a journey of 2hrs and a ticket usually less than £20.

Once in Plymouth you can have a night in the city and enjoy cultural highlights like the Box museum, shopping in the city centre or exploring the historic barbican district (a great place to go sample a hearty pint or a first pasty of your trip!).

Or head straight for the bus 70A bus which connects the city to the town of Torpoint – the first stop across the county border marked by the Tamar River. Access is via a vehicle ferry and then onwards to Whitsand Bay, Maker Heights, Mt Edgucumbe estate and the quaint villages of Millbrook, Kingsand and Cawsand.

Those driving can make it from central Bristol to our 5km bay in 2hrs 45mins.

Music – Maker Heights has a wide array of events, from acoustic sessions to DJ sets, you’ll find visual treats in the Garrison Gallery and cocktail bar, and music next door at Patchwork. Our cosy village pubs also have lots on – you’ll often find music playing at the Finnygook Inn, Devon and Cornwall Inn or Rising Sun.

Food – Cornish Pod have the Peninsula’s hearts – they are undeniably cracking pasties. As for cafes the Clifftop Cafe has amazing coffee and unparalleled views. If you’re working on the tan and want Al Fresco then Oskallys or the Guard Store have cute outdoor spaces and tasty fare. For sit down meals you’ll find plenty of options at any of the village pubs. The Vaults at Whitsand Bay Forts have one of the best Sunday roasts we’ve ever experienced (and all our coaches have had their fair share of ravenous post-surf roasts!).

Activities – surfing at our uncrowded beaches is naturally something we want to highlight – but we can also take you coasteering (jumping off of rocks and exploring caves and other natural features) or for SUP tours if the conditions are right! You can rent a bike, learn to forage, and there’s even a place for frisbee golf if that’s your thing. If you’re lucky, you might even catch the seasonal performances from our local men’s a cappella choir.
